Introduction
Christian Servanthood Leadership
The Master of Public Administration at
Belhaven College equips graduates for increased leadership and
management responsibilities within government agencies. Our goal is to
enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities of public sector professionals
and to serve other student who desire careers in public and non-profit
organizations. The program will convey knowledge and develop
competencies in public sector management practices, public policy
analysis, and public decision-making processes. The program is offered
in the evenings to facilitate participation by students who are employed
full time and wish to pursue their education. Classes are accelerated
and consist of one class meeting per week plus a weekly learning team
meeting. The program is designed to be completed in 72 weeks.
Learning teams are organized during the first official class meeting allowing students to work collaborative with other students to complete weekly classroom assignments. Learning teams are mandatory and allow students the opportunity to learn from different educational and cultural backgrounds. It offers
leadership skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills that
are sufficient for public administrators and public servants.

Mission
The MPA program at Belhaven focuses on the Christian worldview model
of servant hood and emphasizes conscientious public service and
responsiveness. The program desires to raise up compassionate, sincere
and empathetic public servants. This goal conforms to the Belhaven
College motto: Not to be served, but to serve.
